Hot Tub Guide & Policy
It is part of our terms and conditions that you read and follow the guidance, these are for your safety and well being. Non-adherence can lead to guests stay being terminated.
WHAT KIND OF HOT TUB?
Available for guests are Swedish style wood burning Hot tubs, these are wooden hot tubs that are heated by a wood fired stove.
Unlike electric spa hot tubs, these do not use chemicals, do not have filter systems or circulation pumps.
For each stay the tub is drained, cleaned, sanitised and filled with fresh potable water, we use the water on the croft or discharge into the burn.
HOW TO OPERATE THE HOT TUB
The Hot Tub requires 60-90 minutes to reheat (it has been pre-heated for arrival)
Use the eco fire lighters and a small amount of kindling to light the stove. Once the kindling is burning add a couple of small logs, and then when burning add more logs to build a large fire but don’t over fill the stove, you need to air to circulate to allow the logs to burn. Once the logs are burning you will need to top up the stove with fresh logs every 20 mins.
IMPORTANT: Use the wooden paddle to stir the water as the hot tub is heating up – this will ensure an even temperature and avoid hot/ cold spots.
Once the water is warm, the tub is ready to enjoy!
No glass is allowed in or near the hot tub – we provide plastic glasses specifically for use with the tub.
When not in use please cover using the lid provided to retain heat and also stop debris (leaves etc.) from blowing onto the tub.
Only fuel provided by or purchased from West Coast Hideaways can be used in the Hot Tub wood burner.
We need to control the standard of fuel as damp/ wet wood (wood with a high moisture content) can cause damage to the flue. We source our wood as ethnically as possible from the local, community owned, wood provider based in Ullapool.
Rules: Important for your safety
Hot Tubs are great place for relaxation and fun for all, but as this is a water based activity safety in around the hot tub is paramount to minimise the risk of injury or drowning.
Before taking a relaxing soak:
We ask guests not to add any oils or lotions to the water and request they shower before use to remove any fake tan, deodorants etc. this is to allow us to be as ecological as possible and reuse the water on the croft.
Stove:
Care must be taken when using the stove, no-one under 18 can operate the stove, keep pets away from the stove.
Temperature:
Do not overheat the hot tub, keep the water temperature no higher than 41℃.
Higher water temperatures can cause strain on the cardiovascular system. Limit the hot tub use to no more than 15-20 minutes at a time and if when you feel you are getting too hot, get out and allow your body to cool, when you feel comfortable you may submerse yourself back into the spa pool.
Medical conditions:
People with diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or other cardiovascular conditions should consult their physician before using a hot tub.
People with open sores or any type of infection should not use the hot tub, hot water is an ideal environment for spreading infection.
Women who are pregnant should consult their physician before using a hot tub
To reduce the risk of contaminating hot tub water and minimize health risks, shower with soap and water prior to using the hot tub.
Alcohol & Medication:
The consumption of alcohol in the hot tub is a hazardous practice. Never use glass drinking vessels near the hot tub. Alcohol can cause drowsiness and lead to drowning and guests are advised against drinking alcohol in the hot tub. Any person taking medication should consult their physician before entering the hot tub.
Children:
We only accept guest over the age of 18 years old
Additional guests:
Only 2 people are allowed to use the hot tub, external guests are not allowed.
Pets:
Dogs/Pets are not allowed in the hot tub.
Preventing Slips:
Always take care when entering and exiting the hot tub due to slippery, and potentially uneven surfaces.
Weather Conditions:
The hot tub may not be available during extreme or adverse weather conditions, no discount is available.
